The numbers weren’t there. As for civil rights, it’s going to be very hard for Obama to say anything about that one way or the other as the first black President. That’s a political minefield and I think it would be wise of him to try his best to avoid that topic until he can tie down a second term. If he can do that, then I am holding out hope that his second four years will be one bereft of his current stoic reservation.
